HOME CARE TIPS FROM OUR OFFICE IN CARLISLE, PA

Have an outside Hydrant?

We recommend that you remove all hoses and fittings from your outside faucet from Labor Day to Memorial Day. The frost free faucets are designed to stop the water inside of the house and drain the pipe. Any hoses and fittings left on these hydrants will not allow the water to drain properly and thus causing your hydrant to freeze and break.

Are those trees growing near your sewer line?

Trees are beautiful and provided lots of shade in the heat of the summer, however, if you have trees in your yard, you may want to take a closer look. Over the years we have found that the major issues with most sewer lines does not come from a broken line, but from tree roots. Tree roots will seek water. They will grow along the sewer pipe and find a joint that is not sealed and begin to grow inside the pipe. Notice that pipe hanging from that chain? Unfortunately, that is not a pipe! That is a length of tree roots that we pulled from a pipe. We find this a lot with cast iron and clay piping. Notice the other picture of the roots in the pipe. This has and will cause major issues for sewer drainage from a structure. If you notice you have trees growing on top of or around your sewer line, you may want to have those trees removed to keep this from having an effect on your sewer lines and septic systems.
